Hugh began recording songs at the age of 12 in a home studio he built with a school friend. Having recorded over 25 songs before high school, Hugh became known around the community as “the MC.” He went on to become the captain of his high school football team until he decided to hang up his jersey to pursue music full time. Hugh released an EP as a junior, which was funded with street money by his cousin whom was only a year older than him. Determined to pay him back, Hugh went into the streets to sell his EP. In only two months Hugh was able to accumulate the couple thousand needed to pay his cousin back. Based on the success of the EP, Hugh performed at universities such as Loyola Marymount and Santa Clara, as well as Los Angeles venues the Knitting Factory, the Troubadour, and Musicians Institute. When Hugh graduated from high school he moved to New Orleans to further his academic career.
